The Southend & District Netball League was founded on 30th April 1953, and at this point the league consisted of just three members: The Honorary League Secretary - Colin Lulman A representative from two member clubs: Mr Pentacost from Ecko Miss King from Gaslight Thirteen teams made up the only division and Canvey YC were the first winners of the league, and were presented with the Willis, Faber and Dumas Cup which is still in use today. The initial season was run with just six rules and in 1953 Peter Grimes became the first Chairman of the league.
